“Just got home from a epic trip with the Carolina Gentleman out of Quepos, Costa Rica. My best friend and I stayed on the boat for 4 nights with 3, 12 hour days of fantastic, bucket list fishing!
Captain Skipper Gentry was awesome to deal with from the start. Great communication and he prepared for everything we asked for, including transportation to and from the airport in San Jose.
We woke the first morning at 5am and by 5:30 all the lines were in and we were tight to the first of many Sailfish within an hour!
The mates, Santos and Danny were both experienced professionals and the Captain, Skipper, was top notch. We constantly had 5 or more baits in the water, 2 teasers and 2 dredges. It was impressive to see the boat and crew maneuverer the boat over fish and keep the spread producing without a tangle the whole trip. We learned a lot about the great fishery in Costa Rice and the crew was more than happy to patiently teach us anything we wanted to learn.
On the 3rd day we hooked up to a huge Blue Marlin, likely around 500 pounds and experienced the power of fighting one of the sea's true competitor. It was a fantastic hit on the bait, tremendous run and great show as it leaped from the water to show it's full splendor of size and strength. After a great fight, the hook pulled about 40 feet from the boat! We were trilled to end in a draw, both the fishermen and fish were the winners.
The accommodations were perfect for our trip and the food was spectacular as well. 3 meals a day, snacks and fresh fruit were served and enjoyed.
Don't worry about sleeping on a trip like this. After 12 hours of fishing, a hot shower and a home cooked meal we were asleep by 9 and fishing the next day at sunrise!
We are so happy we choose Skipper Gentry and the Carolina Gentleman for this adventure. If you ever have the opportunity, jump at the chance to fish with this great boat and crew.”
